Cubs announce senior director of media relations hire John Steinmiller

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today announced John Steinmiller has been named the senior director of media relations for the club.

Steinmiller has nearly 20 years of experience in sports communications including the last eight years in the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks media relations department, serving as director since July 2017. Prior to joining the Blackhawks in January 2016, he was part of the basketball communications department with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA from 2014-16.

Steinmiller began his career in professional sports in 2005 with the Milwaukee Brewers and would serve in the media relations department for over nine seasons before departing in June of 2014.

A Whitefish Bay, Wisc., native, Steinmiller graduated from Marquette University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He and his wife, Kate, have one daughter, Nola.

Steinmiller’s first day with the Cubs will be Monday, February 5.
