Cubs News: Craig Counsell on Mike Tauchman's injury timeline |
The Chicago Cubs placed veteran outfielder Mike Tauchman on the 10-day IL on Tuesday with a left groin strain.
The 'Summer of Tauchman' will have to wait as he will need at least a month to rehab the injury. "He's going to miss significant time," Counsell said recently. "Mike's been a very consistent offensive presence for us, for sure. And that will be missed, absolutely. The left-handed bat. The ability to get on base. His ball-strike decisions are as good as anybody, really, in baseball. So that on-base component will definitely be missed." Tauchman, 33, is hitting .259 (57-for-220) with five HR and 19 RBI in 66 games with the Cubs this season. To take Tauchman's spot on the roster, the Cubs called up Miles Mastrobuoni, who will fill a utility role with the team.
