Cubs News: Injury updates on Ian Happ, Seiya Suzuki, Justin Steele |
Chicago Cubs gold-glove outfielder Ian Happ is currently sidelined with left hamstring tightness after he left Friday's game early.
He was also battling some hamstring issues late in Spring Training. Happ told the media he hopes to return to the Cubs lineup against the Houston Astros on Tuesday. "I just didn't feel like pushing it for these next couple of days, with where the team's at, where we're at," Happ said in pre-game on Sunday. "[I wanted to] get enough rest with the off-day coming up [Monday] to get back to 100 percent. I feel good. I feel really good. I'm probably available at some point today if the situation presents itself." Happ is batting .240 with a homer and 12 RBI this season. In other injury news, right fielder Seiya Suzuki was "introducing very light baseball activity" on Sunday while rehabbing his injured oblique. Cubs case Justin Steele had a good side session today and will throw three innings Friday as he is close to a rehab stint. “It was great. Everything went well,” Counsell said. “The next step will be a stint in Arizona in extended. Game action, essentially. That will happen on Friday.” Once the Cubs get back Happ, Suzuki and Steele, they should really have a tough squad to deal with in the National League Central division.
