Cubs News: Jason Heyward pulled from game due to injury

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO – The injury bug just does not want to leave the Chicago Cubs alone, as the club has been forced to deal with a slew of injuries as of late. Yet another Cubs injury was suffered on Wednesday, with right fielder Jason Heyward exited the North Siders' clash with the Washington Nationals due to left hamstring tightness. Heyward was pinch hit for in the bottom of the fourth, and the reasoning for that was announced later in the contest.

As of now, there is no specific moment in Wednesday's tilt at Wrigley Field that can be pinpointed as the moment when Heyward was injured. For what it is worth, "J-Hey" ended the top of the third by robbing Washington Nationals third baseman Starlin Castro – a former Cub – of a hit with a nice sliding grab in right, potentially preventing a run from coming across. Heyward's only plate appearance of the night was a second-inning foulout.

With Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo already missing the game due to back tightness, Kris Bryant started at first. Bryant's recent theme of playing a litany of different defensive positions continued, with the third-baseman-by-trade taking over for Heyward in right. P.J. Higgins, who was called up earlier in the day, pinch hit for Heyward in his MLB debut and subsequently replaced Bryant at first.
