Cubs News: Craig Counsell updates injuries on the team |
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell talked to the media Friday and gave an update on the injuries on the team as they prepare for the final stretch before the start of the 2024 season.
Counsell said that slugger Patrick Wisdom will start the season on the injured list with his back issue. In 2023, Wisdom hit .205 with 23 homers and 46 RBIs. Wisdom's absence will likely help DH Garrett Cooper to make the Opening Day roster. Veteran starting pitcher James Taillon will join Wisdom on the injured list (back). He will throw live batting practice before the season starts. He will then do a minor league reb assignment, and they target him back in mid-April at the earliest. The team is hopeful that third baseman Nick Madrigal will play in a minor league game by Sunday. In other roster news, the Cubs announced that pitcher Edwin Escobar has been assigned to minor league camp. The team is continuing its cuts to prepare for the season and now has 36 players on the spring roster. The Chicago #Cubs today reduced the spring roster from 37 to 36 players. https://t.co/2bGdcl5zhZ
