Cubs News: Ryne Sandberg updates his medical condition

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs legend Ryne Sandberg announced on social media in January that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

Sandberg shared an update via Instagram on Saturday on his medical condition and wanted to thank everyone for all the prayers from Cubs nation.

"Well, second round of Chemo under belt! Met with my terrific Team Docs prior, Dr. Schaeffer and Dr. Vanderweele of Northwestern Hospital, Chicago," Sandberg posted. "Little anxious going in but knocked it out with little stress. Last 2 days first bout of nausea. Managing symptoms with meds and still having pain free days and comfortable around the house and running few errands with cautionary habits, masked up.

Ryno understands that early detection for everyone is key in the prostate battle.

"Before I get too far into this journey, I want to stress awareness, testing and Dr. visits to check Prostate! Early detection is important and more manageable, I think! Sporting the light blue 🩵 for Prostate Awareness as the journey continues. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!

Love, Ryno."

The Cubs released the following statement last month about Sandberg's medical condition.

"We cannot imagine how incredibly tough it is right now for Ryne and his family, but we do know Ryne is one tough competitor and a winner," the Cubs said in a statement. "We are rallying around his family with locked arms as they begin their journey to conquer this battle with cancer."

Sandberg was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2005.

CubsHQ would like to give our most heartfelt prayers and warmest thoughts to Ryno and his family during this difficult time.
