Cubs trade reliever Ryan Tepera to rival White Sox |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today acquired minor league left-handed pitcher Bailey Horn from the Chicago White Sox for right-handed pitcher Ryan Tepera.
Horn, 23, was selected by the White Sox in the fifth round of the 2020 draft out of Auburn University. In his first professional action this season, he is 2-3 with a 5.63 ERA (24 ER/38.1 IP) in 14 games (10 starts) at the Single-A level between Kannapolis and Winston-Salem. Horn has struck out 45 batters, good for an average of 10.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings, and walked 18. The six-foot two-inch Horn has held opponents this season to a .226 average (33-for-146), a .315 on-base percentage and a .342 slugging mark, having allowed three home runs in 165 batters faced. Tepera, 33, is 0-2 with 15 holds, one save and a 2.91 ERA (14 ER/43.1 IP) in 43 relief appearances for Chicago this season. Since he signed with the Cubs prior to the 2020 campaign, Tepera is 0-3 with 17 holds, one save and a 3.23 ERA (23 ER/64.0 IP) in 64 relief appearances.
