Reds outfielder confident against Cubs: "Let's go beat them with Cody Bellinger" |
The National League Central Division is wide open in 2024, with the Chicago Cubs being the early favorites in the latest Vegas odds released this week.
The reason for optimism on the Northside is that the Cubs re-signed standout outfielder Cody Bellinger to a three-year deal worth $80 million this week which helped stabilize their lineup. It was the largest contract given out this offseason in the division. The Reds were asked about the news that the Cubs signed Bellinger and were not impressed. "The way I look at it is, ‘Cool. Let’s go beat them with Cody Bellinger,’ “ Reds outfielder Spencer Steer said. “It doesn’t matter. “They had him last year. I think we wound up winning the series against them over the season. Let’s go do it again." Steer understands that they can only control what they can control. "Obviously, he has an unbelievable track record, but at the end of the day, we’ve got to worry about ourselves." Reds' Jonathan India thinks his team will bring home their first division title since 2012. “We have a lot more depth, pitching, hitting — we have everything,” India said. “Our team’s stacked.”
