Cubs acquire Guardians outfielder Harold Ramirez in trade

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today acquired outfielder Harold Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians for a cash consideration. The Cubs 40-man roster stands at 38 players.

Ramirez, 27, appeared in 99 games for Cleveland last season, hitting .268 (91-for-339) with 21 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 41 RBI in 99 games. He hit .287 (29-for-75) with runners in scoring position and posted a .288 average (34-for-118) against left-handed pitching while appearing at all three outfield positions. Acquired by Cleveland off waivers from Miami, February 24, Ramirez was designated for assignment, November 19.

A native of Cartagena, Colombia, Ramirez made his major league debut with the Marlins in 2019, ranking sixth among N.L. rookies with 116 hits. In parts of three major league seasons with Miami (2019-20) and Cleveland, the right-handed hitting outfielder owns a .271 average (209-for-770) in 221 career games with 41 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs and 92 RBI, appearing in 111 games in left field, 91 in right field and 47 in center field.

In all or part of nine minor league campaigns with the Pittsburgh (2012-16), Toronto (2016-18), Miami (2019) and Cleveland (2021) chains, Ramirez has hit .303 (707-for-2,332) with 128 doubles, 22 triples, 35 home runs and 311 RBI to go along with 95 stolen bases spanning 614 games. Originally signed by Pittsburgh as an international free agent in 2011, he won the Eastern League batting title in 2018 with a .320 average for Double-A New Hampshire.
