Report: Cubs sign lefty pitcher Steven Brault |
The Chicago Cubs sign free-agent starting pitcher Steven Brault to a major league deal, according to multiple reports on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old lefty was 0-3 with a 5.86 ERA in 27.2 total innings last season. He has one minor-league option available and is arbitration-eligible through 2023. He has a 12-18 record for his MLB career with a 4.77 ERA with a 1.53 WHIP. He has experience starting with 52 big-league starts. He has a 91 MPH fastball, sinker, slider, and a changeup. The Pirates designated him for assignment in November ahead of the non-tender deadline. This is a decent move as the Cubs needed more pitching depth after the injury to Adbert Alzolay and Codi Heuer.
