WATCH: Anthony Rizzo hits RBI triple shortly after rain delay |
CHICAGO — A brief rain delay at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night was followed by an RBI triple off the bat of Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo was at the plate and facing a 1-0 count when play was halted due to rain with two outs in the bottom of the second. The Cubs led the Philadelphia Phillies 3-0 at the time.
The short-lived break in the action transitioned into Rizzo drilling a pitch into the right field corner and tallying his third triple of the season. The RBI three-bagger off starter Zack Wheeler plated left fielder Joc Pederson, who reached on a one-out single, from first base. Rizzo then scored via an RBI base hit smacked up the middle by catcher Willson Contreras, giving the Cubs a 5-0 lead. All five of the North Siders' runs were scored with two outs.
