CINCINNATI — The Chicago Cubs took a 4-2 lead over the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on Sunday, thanks to a pair of solo home runs hit in the same inning by left fielder Kris Bryant and first baseman Anthony Rizzo. The sluggers took starter Tyler Mahle deep just two plate appearances apart in the top of the third.
Bryant's eighth homer of the year carried 381 feet out to left-center field, and Rizzo's fifth homer of the year carried 410 feet out to center field. First, Bryant sent a 92.9-mph four-seamer into the seats, with the solo shot leaving the bat at 101.1 mph and 28 degrees. Rizzo followed soon afterward with a solo bomb coming on a 92.8-mph four-seamer.
