WATCH: Willson Contreras skies game-tying dinger in eighth inning |
CHICAGO — After Chicago Cubs reliever Keegan Thompson came up clutch by escaping a bases-loaded jam in the top of the eighth, catcher Willson Contreras took advantage of the Cincinnati Reds' missed opportunity by hitting a game-tying solo shot in the bottom of the eighth. Contreras took former Cubs reliever Josh Osich deep with a one-out jack to left-center field.
Contreras' 16th home run of the season, the 384-foot dinger was powered off the bat at 105.4 mph and 39 degrees. By going yard, Contreras evened the score at five runs apiece. The Wrigley Field faithful erupted after Contreras made contact on an 87.4-mph cutter from Osich, who pitched for the Cubs last year. Carrying 384 feet into the seats, the pivotal long ball increased Contreras' season RBI total to 35.
