Wacha: "I feel like we are a better team" than Cubs

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs clinched the National League Central division on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium.

Cardinals pitcher Michael Wacha is in certain denial about his St. Louis ballclub compared to the defending World Champions Cubs in a recent interview.

"I feel like we are right there," Wacha said when asked about the gap between the two rivalry teams.

Wacha then said something a little insane.

"I feel like we are a better team," he added. "The guys in this clubhouse, the way they come to play every day. I know we didn't stack up very well against them this year. It's something we've got to do a better job of."

Regardless of what Wacha says, the Cardinals have a 14-24 record against the Cubs since 2016. In 2017, the Cardinals were 5-14 against the North Siders including losing 11 of the last 13 games.

The Cardinals will never get back to winning the division until they realize some truths about their ballclub. Unfortunately, they just don't have the talent that the Cubs have, and the gap is not even close. Besides, the difference in baseball talent, Mike Matheny is not a top-tier manager in my opinion.
