Cubs make several roster moves including Cody Bellinger activated from IL |
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced on 670 The Score on Tuesday that standout outfielder Cody Bellinger will be activated from the injured list from his previous rib injury.
Outfielder Alexander Canario will be optioned to Triple-A to make room for Bellinger. Canario is hitting .273 with one homer and a .815 OPS in 13 games for the Cubs this season. Counsell said that Bellinger will be in the lineup tonight against the Padres in the DH role. 'Belli' will DH for the next couple of games according to the manager. He is hitting .226 with five homers, 17 RBIs and a .760 OPS in 22 games this season. "It's going to be easier on him to DH." Reliever Daniel Palencia will be added to the 15-day injured list with shoulder stiffness. Palencia has a 6.55 ERA in seven appearances for the Cubs this season. To bolster the bullpen in Palencia's absence, the team will call back up reliever Keegan Thompson, who was just sent down. Thompson has a 3.38 ERA in seven appearances this season. The Cubs play the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field tonight at 6:40 p.m. CT in a game on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score and 1200 WRTO.
