Cubs make decision on Addison Russell |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today reinstated infielder Addison Russell off of the restricted list and optioned him to Triple-A Iowa. To make room for Russell on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Brandon Morrow has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.
Russell, 25, has played six games as part of a rehab assignment with Iowa this season, batting .250 (5-for-20) with one home run and seven RBI. Today’s activation from the restricted list and return to the 40-man roster marks the completion of his 40-game suspension, which included the final 12 games of the 2018 season and the first 28 games of this season. Morrow, 34, was placed on the injured list on Opening Day (retroactive to March 25) as he continues his recovery from offseason right elbow surgery.
