CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected infielder David Bote from Triple-A Iowa and optioned infielder Nick Madrigal to Triple-A. To make room on the 40-man roster, Adbert Alzolay has been transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Bote, 31, has spent the entire 2024 season with Iowa, hitting .259 (28-for-108) with seven home runs and 15 RBI in 28 games. In eight games since May 21, Bote is hitting .313 (10-for-32) with three home runs and eight RBI for the I-Cubs. He has played at least one game at every infield position this season with the most games—nine each—at third base and shortstop.

He returns to the Cubs for the first time since the 2022 season as he played the entire 2023 season with Iowa, hitting .258 (93-for-360) with 29 doubles, 14 home runs, 61 RBI and a .817 OPS in 99 games. Over portions of five major league seasons from 2018-22, all with the Cubs, Bote is hitting .231 (235-for-1,019) in 384 games with 36 home runs and 150 RBI.

Bote made his major league debut on April 21, 2018 vs. Colorado and has played every position in the major leagues except pitcher, catcher and center field, spending most of his time at third base (196 games) and second base (149 games). Bote was originally selected by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2012 draft out of Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan.

Madrigal, 27, has appeared in 51 games for the Cubs this season, including 21 starts, and is batting .221 (19-for-86).

Alzolay, 29, was placed on the 15-day injured list May 13 with a right forearm strain.

The Cubs play Cincinnati today at 1:20 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field, a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and 1200 WRTO.
