Cubs News: Ben Zobrist playing update |
Don't say it so, Zo!
Veteran utility player Ben Zobrist is not at any MLB spring training camp and is likely to call it a career according to MLB insider Jon Heyman. "Ben Zobrist hasn’t announced anything but is at home and has no plans to play," Heyman posted. "Very nice career: started versatility trend and was rewarded for it, won 2 rings." Last season, Zobrist dealt with family issues and he returned in September where he hit an impressive .284 in 77 at-bats down the stretch. For his career, Zo hit .266 average with 1,566 hits, 167 homers, 768 RBIs, and 832 walks. He was a three-time All-Star and a fan favorite for the North Siders. CubsHQ would like to wish Zobrist a happy retirement if this is indeed the end of his playing days. Hopefully, he will back with the Chicago Cubs in some capacity one day as a coach or special assistant. Ben Zobrist hasn’t announced anything but is at home and has no plans to play.
