Cubs News: Bryce Harper signs record-breaking deal

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

It finally happened.

Bryce Harper has signed a 13-year record-breaking $330 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday. The contract includes a no opt-out clause and will end in 2031.

The contract is the largest in pro team sports history surpassing Giancarlo Stanton (325 million), Manny Machado (300 million), and Alex Rodriguez two times (275 million and 252 million).

If you breakdown the dollars, Harper will get an estimated $44,929 per plate appearance and $156,695 per game. Per year (25.3 million), per month (2.1 million), per day (70K), per hour (2.9K), per minute (48 dollars), per second (.80 cents).

Harper hit .247 with 34 homers, 100 RBIs, and had an on-base percentage of .393 last season. In the NL statistical rankings, he was sixth in homers, 8th in RBIs, 6th in runs (103), 1st in walks (130), and 10th in OPS (.889).

There was a large portion of Cubs fans that wanted the team to go after Harper but in the end, the Phillies had way too much expendable money to spend on this massive long-term contract to Harper.
