Cubs News: Dansby Swanson injury update

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have been off to a promising start in the 2023 season, and a big part of that success has been the offensive contributions of Dansby Swanson, the team's shortstop.

In just 10 games, Swanson has reached base safely in seven of them, hitting a remarkable .400 with five runs batted in. However, in Tuesday's comeback win, Swanson had to leave early due to lower left-side tightness.

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross updated Swanson's condition on Wednesday to the media.

"The conversation we had was very easy and clean," Ross said. "You think you might get some pushback but we were very much in lockstep (on resting his body with cramps) in stuff we were talking about. He understands and the great part of him is that he has won a World Championship and understands what a long season we have. Let's be smart. Let's take advantage of the two off-days. Try to get your legs under you and get the fluids in and make sure we are in for the long haul."

For the season, Swanson is batting .400 with five RBIs.

Swanson told the media that he expects to return to the Cubs lineup Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

It's encouraging to hear that Swanson and the Cubs are taking the necessary steps to ensure his health and longevity over the course of the season.

The Cubs will certainly need Swanson's contributions if they hope to continue their strong start to the season. With his hot hitting and solid defense at shortstop, Swanson has been a valuable asset to the team.
