Cubs News: Kris Bryant gets huge honor from 2017 Topps Baseball

by - Senior Editor -

The Topps Trading company announced on Thursday that Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant will get card No. 1 for their set of 2017 Series 1 cards which was voted on by the fans from 16 nominees on Topps.com.

The set of cards will go on sale on February 1st.

“It’s a huge honor with Card No. 1 depicting legends before me,” Bryant said in a news release. “It’s very humbling and nice to know it came from the fans.”

Bryant earned the National League MVP award in 2016 after batting .292 with 39 homers, 102 RBIs, 121 runs, and an on-base percentage of .385.

The No. 1 card is an honor as last year it was given to Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout.

“Kris Bryant is an outstanding player with an infectious personality,” said David Leiner, General Manager and Vice President of Topps North American Sports & Entertainment. “He’s done so much in his career and has created fans throughout baseball regardless of team loyalties. He’s the perfect pick for Card No. 1 for 2017 Topps Baseball.”
