Cubs News: Weather delay in ninth inning at Wrigley Field |
CHICAGO — With a storm front moving in and lightning in the area, play was halted due to a weather delay at Wrigley Field midway through the ninth inning on Saturday afternoon. The tarp was brought out to cover the field prior to the bottom of the ninth getting underway.
The Chicago Cubs currently trail the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2 and will have the opportunity to bat in the bottom of the ninth once play resumes. First baseman Anthony Rizzo is set to lead off, likely with far fewer fans in the stands. Tarp coming out here at Wrigley Field in the bottom of the 9th. UPDATE: Play resumed following a 99-minute break in the action, and Rizzo hit a leadoff double to the wall in center field off reliever Brett de Geus.
