Cubs pitcher to start season on disabled list

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs lefty reliever Brian Duensing will be going on the 10-day disabled list (back spasms) to start the season according to Cubs President Theo Epstein on Wednesday.

The 34-year old signed a deal worth around $2 million during free agency with the Cubs. He is 42-37 with 4.13 ERA in 368 games (61 starts) in eight major league seasons.

His injury will give the Cubs the option to keep Tommy La Stella and Matt Szczur both on the Opening Day lineup to begin the season.

This is great news for fans that couldn't decide between La Stella and Szczur for the final roster spot on the club.
