by -

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks off of the 10-day disabled list. Right-handed pitcher Felix Peña has been optioned to Triple-A.

Hendricks will make the start this afternoon for the Cubs at Wrigley Field as they begin their home-and-home week of four games against the Chicago White Sox.

The 27-year-old Hendricks was placed on the 10-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right hand on June 8 (retroactive to June 5). He made a pair of rehab assignments with Double-A Tennessee as part of his return, posting no record and a 1.08 ERA (1 ER/8.1 IP) while limiting foes to a .077 batting average and posting a 0.36 WHIP. He tossed five perfect innings in his most recent start on July 17 vs. Mobile, retiring all 15 batters faced. Overall this year, Hendricks is 4-3 with a 4.09 ERA (28 ER/61.2 IP) in 11 big league starts.

Peña, 27, has gone 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA (8 ER/16.0 IP) in 10 relief outings with the Cubs this season. He is 1-1 with five saves and a 6.94 ERA (18 ER/23.1 IP) in 17 relief appearances with Iowa this year.
