Cubs reportedly hiring new bench coach Ryan Flaherty |
The Chicago Cubs are reportedly hiring Ryan Flaherty as their new bench coach, according to multiple reports, first by The Athletic.
"Ryan Flaherty is expected to be named Cubs bench coach, sources tell The Athletic," Britt Ghiroli tweeted. "Flaherty was a finalist for the Padres managerial job that went to Mike Shildt. Had previously served as Padres bench coach. Now will hold the same role in Chicago under Craig Counsell." Flaherty was originally drafted by the Cubs back in 2008. He retired as a player after the 2019 season. This seems like a great hire, as he is considered one of the top up-and-coming managers in the game. The full coaching list for Craig Counsell should be posted soon, and we will let you know when it is announced. After being plucked from the Cubs via the Rule 5 in 2011, Ryan Flaherty has been wandering the MLB desert only to make his way home to Chicago.
Obviously kidding, but that’s a solid bench coach option! https://t.co/Ruv1NhTWUS
