The Chicago Cubs continue to make moves this offseason.
The Cubs have traded with the Miami Marlins for veteran utilityman Vidal Brujan for first baseman Matt Mervis on Sunday according to multiple reports. Mervis didn't really have a route to playing time with the Cubs in 2025 with the emergence of Michael Busch at first base. Now, Mervis is expected to find a more straightforward path to playing time with Miami. He batted .235 in 81 games for Triple-A Iowa in 2024 and still has one minor league option remaining. The Cubs signed him out of Duke as an undrafted free agent in 2020. Brujan, known for his versatility, was designated for assignment by the Marlins last week. He can play virtually anywhere on the field, having appeared in 31 games at second base, 28 at shortstop, 14 at third base, 12 in center field, 8 in right field, 3 in left field, and even one at first base during the 2024 season.
