Former Cubs pitcher Andrew Chafin signs with D-backs

The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms with LHP Andrew Chafin on a 1-year contract with a club option for 2024.

His 375 appearances since 2017 are the most among Major League relievers.

Will wear No. 57 in his return to Arizona, where he played 7 seasons (2014-20) and is second in appearances (337) among pitchers and fourth in strikeouts (288) among relievers in franchise history.

In 2022, appeared in 64 games with the Tigers, going 2-3 with 3 saves, a 2.83 ERA (18 ER in 57.1 IP) and 67 strikeouts.

In 9 Major League seasons, has gone 14-20 with 11 saves, a 3.23 ERA and 422 strikeouts in 476 games (3 starts) with the D-backs (2014-20), Cubs (’20-21), Athletics (’21) and Tigers (’22).

The D-backs designated LHP Tyler Holton for assignment.

The D-backs’ 40-man roster is at 40.
