Former Cubs pitcher Dakota Mekkes signs with Counter Clocks |
Former Chicago Cubs pitcher Dakota Mekkes has signed with the Lexington Counter Clocks, the team announced on social media.
The Counter Clocks are a minor-league baseball team part of the Appalachian League’s transition to a summer collegiate league. The team is made up of players from around the country, including a mix of college players and young prospects, and they plays their home games at the Whitaker Bank Ballpark in downtown Lexington. Mekkes, a right-handed pitcher, was drafted by the Cubs in the 10th round of the 2016 MLB June Amateur Draft from Michigan State University. He made his minor league debut with the Eugene Emeralds in 2016 and worked his way up to Triple-A, spending most of his time with the Iowa Cubs in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, he had a 1-3 record with a 6.25 ERA at Iowa Cubs. Mekkes' addition to the team will be a significant boost to the Counter Clocks' pitching staff, and his experience will be invaluable to the young players on the roster.
