WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Chicago Cubs today activated right-handed pitcher Jameson Taillon off the 15-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Jeremiah Estrada to Triple-A Iowa.

Taillon, 31, will make today’s 1:05 p.m. ET start against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.

The six-foot five-inch Taillon landed on the 15-day injured list April 20 (retroactive to April 17) with a left groin strain. He is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA (7 ER/14.0 IP) in three starts for Chicago this season, his first with the club after signing a four-year major league deal in December of last year. His previous start was April 15 at the Dodgers, in which he threw 5.0 shutout innings on two hits and two walks, striking out seven.

Selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round (second overall) of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft, Taillon owns a 51-37 record with a 3.85 ERA (343 ER/801.2 IP), 726 strikeouts, compared to 197 walks, and a 1.22 WHIP in 146 career major league starts with Pittsburgh (2016-19), the Yankees (2021-22) and the Cubs.

Taillon, a Lakeland, Fla., native, graduated from The Woodlands (Tex.) High School in 2010. He played for USA Baseball’s 18U National Team as an amateur in 2009 and participated in the 2013 World Baseball Classic for Team Canada, as his parents were both born in Canada.

Estrada, 24, has thrown 4.0 scoreless innings spanning three relief appearances for Chicago this season, walking three and striking out six.
