Roster Moves: Cubs activate Justin Steele from IL, place Patrick Wisdom on IL |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated left-handed pitcher Justin Steele from the 15-day injured list and placed infielder Patrick Wisdom on the 10-day injured list with right wrist sprain.
Steele, 27, will make today’s start when the Cubs play the Baltimore Orioles at Wrigley Field beginning at 1:20 p.m. CT. He was placed on the 15-day injured list June 3 (retroactive June 1) with a left forearm strain. Steele this season is 6-2 with a 2.65 ERA (20 ER/68.0 IP) in 12 starts for the Cubs, pitching to a 1.06 WHIP. He has walked 16, struck out 58 and limited opponents to a .228 batting average, .284 on-base percentage and a .329 slugging percentage. Steele enters today having not allowed a home run in his last 49.0 innings, the longest active streak among major league starting pitchers. The six-foot two-inch Steele is 14-13 with a 3.28 ERA (89 ER/244.0 IP) in 56 career major league games (45 starts) with 93 walks, 243 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP since making his major league debut with Chicago in 2021. He was selected by the Cubs in the fifth round of the First-Year Player Draft out of George County High School in Lucedale, Miss. Wisdom, 31, is hitting .196 (36-for-184) with six doubles, one triple, 14 home runs and 28 RBI in 56 games for the Cubs this season.
