Stroman would "love to stay" to sign an extension with Cubs |
The Stro Show has been fun to watch this season.
Chicago Cubs ace pitcher Marcus Stroman is a bright spot in a disappointing start to 2023 for the Northsiders. Stroman has a 4-4 record with a 2.95 ERA in 11 starts. He can opt out of his three-year contract worth $71 million at the end of the season, which he signed before the 2022 season. “At this point in my career, I’m so open to anything," Stroman told Fox Sports reporter Ken Rosenthal on Saturday. "But (being traded) would bother me a bit, just because I feel like I do love it here, as far as the city, the organization from the top down, the fans. It’s incredible playing at Wrigley. Me coming out here 30 minutes before a game and getting a standing ovation. It’s hard to top that. “It would be tough, very tough in that regard. But at the end of the day, that’s out of my control. I’m sure I’d be happy going to play somewhere else as well …. “I don’t know what they’re thinking, where they’re at as far as moving forward, but I would love to stay here and sign an extension and not even get to free agency, honestly. “I’m very confident myself in free agency as well. I’m real big on just letting it play out. I’m cool either way.” Reportedly, the Cubs have had early discussions with Stroman and it will be interesting to see if they can lock down Stroman and get some stability in the rotation for years to come. The Cubs and Stroman could work together and keep him long-term in Chicago, as they should have a little extra money to spend on the rotation, as Justin Steele won't be eligible to hit free agency until 2027, and they already have Jameson Tailion in the fold for several years.
