CHICAGO — Closer Craig Kimbrel made his Chicago Cubs debut with a save on the line against a former team of his, and that was not even the dominant storyline from the action-packed contest between the Cubs and the Atlanta Braves on Thursday. Coming back from a 6-1 deficit and winning 9-7, the Cubs wrapped up the 4-game series at Wrigley Field in thrilling fashion.

Kimbrel was called up from the minors by the Cubs earlier in the day, brining to a close Kimbrel's preparatory period, which lasted approximately three weeks following the star reliever's initial agreement to join the Cubs. Earning a save against the team that he pitched for from 2010 to 2014, Kimbrel was able to finish off the Braves, thanks in large part to an incredible defensive play made by Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo on the final out. Outfielder Jason Heyward, another former Brave, led the Cubs at the plate by going 2-for-4 and recording three RBI.
