Chicago Cubs prospect Matt 'Mash' Mervis talks about what happened after he got the call-up from Iowa to Chicago and his expectations for himself in his MLB debut and beyond. "I expect to come in and help us win right away," Mervis said during pregame to reporters on Friday afternoon. Mervis will make his MLB debut today as he will bat seventh in the lineup and play first base. In 2022, he led the minors with 78 extra-base hits, 310 total bases, and 119 RBIs and ranking second in doubles (40), third in homers (36), fifth in slugging (.605), and eighth in OPS (.984). Mervis was drafted by the Cubs in the eighth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Duke University. He made his professional debut in 2019 and has been steadily climbing the ranks of the Cubs' farm system ever since. Check out his press conference below:
