Cubs News: Hendricks outduels Greinke in Arizona |
Kyle Hendricks outpitched Zack Greinke on Saturday night to lead the Cubs to a 4-2 win over Arizona. The win was the Cubs fourth in five games to start the season.
Hendricks (1-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings giving up two runs with five strikeouts while Greinke (0-2) allowed four runs in six innings to pick up the loss. The Cubs got the winning margin in the first inning with an RBI single from Anthony Rizzo which was following by an RBI double from Kris Bryant. Miguel Montero then hit a sac fly to gave Chicago three runs in the first inning off of Greinke (0-2). Ben Zobrist stretched the lead to four runs with an RBI double in the fourth. Zobrist reached base four times and had three hits on the night which upped the second baseman's batting average to .400 on the season. The D-backs (2-4) responded with a run in the fourth on a wild pitch and Brandon Drury's RBI double in the seventh, but could not get any closer. Adam Warren, the pitcher the Cubs received in the trade for Starlin Castro, made his Cubs debut and pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief before Hector Rondon came in for the save. The save was No. 60 for Rondon. Jake Arrieta (1-0, 0.00) will face Shelby Miller (0-0, 9.00) in the series finale on Sunday at 4:10 p.m.
