The Chicago Cubs announced several roster moves before Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Starting first baseman Frank Schwindel has been optioned to Iowa, starting pitcher Marcus Stroman is headed to the injured list without designation, and Adrian Sampson has been brought up from Iowa.

Schwindel had struggled offensively batting .209 with two homers and nine RBIs in 25 games this season. Over the last 16 games, he was hitting only .179.

Alfonso Rivas will get the bulk of starts in Schwindel's place.

Justin Steele will pitch tonight instead of Stroman. In five starts, Steele has a 5.50 ERA this season.

Stroman's injury is likely COVID-19 related but there is no confirmation yet from Cubs officials. In five starts this season, he had a 5.13 ERA.

Sampson had a 2.80 ERA in 35 1/3 innings last season.

In rehab news, Wade Miley threw bullpen today while Alec Mills has continued his throwing program. Ethan Roberts and Clint Frazier are going to Arizona to begin their rehab assignment.
