Roster Moves: Cubs reduce spring roster to 50 players

MESA - The Chicago Cubs today reduced the spring roster from 62 to 50 players.

Right-handed pitcher Ben Brown, infielder Luis Vazquez and outfielders Pete Crow-Armstrong and Brennen Davis have been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Right-handed pitchers Michael Arias and Porter Hodge and outfielder Kevin Alcantara have been optioned to Double-A Tennessee.

Five non-roster invitees have been assigned to minor league camp: right-handed pitchers Ethan Robers and Riley Thompson, catcher Pablo Aliendo, infielder Matt Shaw and outfielder Owen Caissie.

Chicago's spring roster of 50 players consists of 27 pitches (which includes 9 non-roster invitees), five catchers (three non-roster invitees), 11 infielders (three-non roster invitees), six outfielders (one non-roster invitee) and one infielder/outfielder.
