Cubs release veteran reliever Brandon Workman

by - Senior Editor -

That didn't last long.

The Chicago Cubs have released veteran reliever Brandon Workman according to the MiLB transactions page.

In 2021 with the Cubs, he had 10 appearances pitching in 8 innings, giving up 11 hits, 9 runs, and 7 walks for an ERA of 6.75.

He was signed by the Cubs this past offseason on a one-year, $1 million deal. Obviously, it didn't work out on this bounce-back candidate as he was designated for assignment last week.

For his career, he has a 3.96 ERA and 25 saves.

Now he is a free agent and will likely find a spot somewhere as he has the potential to be a bullpen piece for somebody.
