Cubs News: Jake Marisnick leaves game due to injury |
CHICAGO — Jake Marisnick started in center field for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Sunday but was forced to exit the game after suffering an injury in the top of the first. Marisnick dropped to the ground in pain while pursuing a bloop hit and then gingerly walked off the field after being examined by trainers.
Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Wilmer Difo lofted a flare to shallow left-center that fell in for a two-run single. Shortstop Kevin Newman and left fielder Ka'ai Tom scored on the two-out hit, placing starter Kyle Hendricks into an early 3-0 hole. Making matters worse was Marisnick's injury, which appeared to be a right leg ailment of some sort. Kris Bryant replaced Marisnick in the field, moving from left to center, and Joc Pederson entered the game to take over in left.
