Bears all-time leading scorer Robbie Gould would play for the Bears "in a heartbeat"

by - Senior Editor -

Robbie Gould has been a consistent and reliable kicker in the NFL for almost two decades.

He has spent the last three years of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, but with his contract coming to an end, he is now a free agent and considering his options for the upcoming season.

Speaking to NFL.com on Thursday from the PGA Tour Champions Invited Celebrity Classic, Gould shared some insight into his thought process for choosing his next team.

Gould emphasized that his family is a major factor in his decision-making process. He wants to be closer to his loved ones, particularly in his hometown of Chicago, and play for a competitive organization

"Obviously, I want to play closer to home, that's one of the big things that's meant a lot to me, and we're filtering through those opportunities, and waiting for the right time to be able to do that," Gould said. "I'd love to win if possible, so I'm kind of being a little picky with that, but at 40 years old and playing 18 years in the league, I think I've earned the ability to do that."

Gould spent the first 11 years of his career with the Chicago Bears, setting franchise records for field goals made and points scored.

However, with his family still residing in Chicago and the Bears showing promise with rising star quarterback Justin Fields, Gould's former team could be an attractive option for him.

When asked about the possibility of returning to the Bears, Gould was enthusiastic. "For sure, if they called and said, 'Hey, we want you to play for us,' I'd do it in a heartbeat," he said.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the Bears will make Gould an offer, but it certainly sounds like he would take a hometown discount to return to his beloved Bears.
