Drafting Darnell Wright was the smart move for Bears

by - Correspondent -

KANSAS CITY - After their blockbuster trade with the Carolina Panthers and another trade with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Chicago Bears have selected offensive lineman Darrell Wright out of Tennessee with the No. 10 overall pick. In the trade with the Eagles for the No. 10 pick, the Bears acquired a fourth-round pick in 2024.

Skoronski is 6 foot 5 and 333 pounds. He has gained a lot of experience at right tackle during his three-year career. Wright is an impact player that the Bears can put in right away. His most notable strengths are his footwork, which was much improved in 2022, and his ability to jolt linebackers as well as how he bulldozes people when a part of double teams.

In picking Wright, the Bears clearly showed their desire for a tackle as opposed to someone like Peter Skoronski out of Northwestern, who most likely would have transitioned to a guard.

Many fans probably wanted Chicago to go defense with this pick, but because the Bears signed many defensive players, they only signed one offensive lineman and they were not able to acquire Mike McGlinchey, the top offensive linemen available in free agency.

Going with an offensive lineman with this pick is an incredibly smart move to protect quarterback Justin Fields.

The next pick for Chicago is currently in the second round with No. 53 overall, which was acquired from the Baltimore Ravens in the Roquan Smith trade.
