NFL Quarterback Carousel: Who's playing where? |
The NFL offseason is now about halfway through, and it is safe to say this might be one of the wildest offseasons of all time. Stars all over are changing teams, and with that comes many different teams changing quarterbacks.
Last season saw the LA Rams trade for Matthew Stafford and make a run for a Super Bowl. So let's take a look around the NFL and see how the quarterback position has changed over the last year. Arizona Cardinals 2021 Quarterback: Kyler Murray 2022 Quarterback: Kyler Murray So far, the Cardinals will have the same man under center as last season with Kyler Murray. Although Murray would like to get paid and some drama inside the Cardinals clubhouse, he looks set to be the QB for the Cardinals this year. Atlanta Falcons 2021 Quarterback: Matt Ryan 2022 Quarterback: Marcus Mariota For the first time in over a decade, Matt Ryan will not be the quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons. After dealing Ryan to the Colts, the Falcons signed former Titan and Raider Marcus Mariota to be their next quarterback. Baltimore Ravens 2021 Quarterback: Lamar Jackson 2022 Quarterback: Lamar Jackson The Ravens are one of the top third of teams in the NFL that know who their starting quarterback is now and for years to come. Lamar won't be going anywhere. Buffalo Bills 2021 Quarterback: Josh Allen, Mitchell Trubisky 2022 Quarterback: Josh Allen The Bills have one of the best young talents in the sport in Josh Allen, so the only thing changing for them will be a backup quarterback as Mitchell Trubisky has changed teams. Carolina Panthers 2021 Quarterback: Cam Newton, Sam Darnold 2022 Quarterback: Sam Darnold? The Panthers gave a lot to acquire Sam Darnold from the Jets before the 2021 season, but he was not great. However, with Newton as a free agent, the Panthers are back to square one to find its franchise quarterback. Chicago Bears 2021 Quarterback: Andy Dalton, Justin Fields, Nick Foles 2022 Quarterback: Justin Fields, Trevor Semien, Nick Foles When the Bears traded up in the 2021 NFL draft to acquire Justin Fields, it was clear he would be their starting quarterback of the future. The job is now his, but it did not come without a typical flurry of Bears quarterback moves. Cincinnati Bengals 2021 Quarterback: Joe Burrow 2022 Quarterback: Joe Burrow Not much to say here. Burrow led the Bengals to the Super Bowl in just his second year, and he may have a job for life in Cincinnati. Cleveland Browns 2021 Quarterback: Baker Mayfield, Case Keenum 2022 Quarterback: Deshaun Watson, Baker Mayfield???, Jacoby Brissett The Browns have had plenty of turnover in their quarterback room a year after making their first playoff appearance in ages. The Browns have moved off of Baker Mayfield and acquired the controversial Deshaun Watson via trade from the Texans and other mobile QB Jacoby Brissett. They will look to move to Mayfield. Dallas Cowboys 2021 Quarterback: Dak Prescott 2022 Quarterback: Dak Prescott There is one thing we know and one thing we do not know. We know Dak Prescott is the Cowboys quarterback for years to come. What we do not know is if Prescott can win in Dallas. Denver Broncos 2021 Quarterback: Teddy Bridgewater, Drew Lock 2022 Quarterback: Russell Wilson The Broncos have the single biggest upgrade at the QB position this offseason. With a blockbuster trade, the Broncos acquired Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson from Seattle this month. Detroit Lions 2021 Quarterback: Jared Goff 2022 Quarterback: Jared Goff It may not be perfect, but the Lions have stability at the QB position in Jared Goff, the former Ram./ Green Bay Packers 2021 Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love 2022 Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love Another offseason of drama and rumors ends the same way: Aaron Rodgers stays in Green Bay. Houston Texans 2021 Quarterback: Deshaun Watson, Tyrod Taylor, Davis Mills 2022 Quarterback: Davis Mills After Deshaun Watson's legal issues and a Tyrod Taylor injury, the Houston Texans quickly became impressed by rookie Davis Mills — who will be their QB in 2022. Indianapolis Colts 2021 Quarterback: Carson Wentz 2022 Quarterback: Matt Ryan Indianapolis will have yet another starting QB in typical Colts fashion when next season begins. After trading for and bailing on Carson Wentz, it will be long-time Falcon Matt Ryan handling things in Indianapolis under center. Jacksonville Jaguars 2021 Quarterback: Trevor Lawrence 2022 Quarterback: Trevor Lawrence The number one pick in 2021 at least has job security in Jacksonville. Kansas City Chiefs 2021 Quarterback: Patrick Mahomes 2022 Quarterback: Patrick Mahomes Enough said—incredible talent who is locked up in Kansas City for a LONG time. Las Vegas Raiders 2021 Quarterback: Derek Carr, Marcus Marriota 2022 Quarterback: Derek Carr Derek Carr has quietly been one of the best QBs in the NFL over the last year. While there were rumors of the Raiders shopping Carr, he will be their QB in 2022. Los Angeles Chargers 2021 Quarterback: Justin Herbert 2022 Quarterback: Justin Herbert Elite talent in a blood bath of a division. Herbert will be the Chargers' QB for years to come. Los Angeles Rams 2021 Quarterback: Matthew Stafford 2022 Quarterback: Matthew Stafford Newly acquired and extended Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford has found a comfortable home in LA for as long as he plays QB. Miami Dolphins 2021 Quarterback: Tua Tagovialoa, Jacoby Brissett 2022 Quarterback: Tua Tagovialoa, Teddy Bridgewater The only thing that will change for the Dolphins is Teddy Bridgewater as backup QB instead of Jacoby Brissett. Raheem Mostert and Tyreek Hill will join South Beach's offense. Minnesota Vikings 2021 Quarterback: Kirk Cousins 2022 Quarterback: Kirk Cousins Minnesota has had Kirk Cousins as QB for a couple of years now and liked it enough to extend him. He's not elite, but he is good and will be Minnesota's QB in 2022. New England Patriots 2021 Quarterback: Mac Jones 2022 Quarterback: Mac Jones The Patriots hope their second-year QB Mac Jones will take a leap in 2022. New Orleans Saints 2021 Quarterback: Jameis Winston, Taysom Hill, Trevor Semien 2022 Quarterback: Jameis Winston, Andy Dalton, Taysom Hill Despite many rumors in New Orleans, a healthy Jameis Winston will get his job back and be backed up by Andy Dalton. Reports say Taysom Hill will primarily play TE in 2022. New York Giants 2021 Quarterback: Daniel Jones, Mike Glennon 2022 Quarterback: Daniel Jones, Tyrod Taylor It looks like the Giants will give Daniel Jones another shot at proving himself as a starter. If he fails, capable backup Tyrod Taylor will be in the wings looking for his opportunity. New York Jets 2021 Quarterback: Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco 2022 Quarterback: Zach Wilson, Joe Flacco The Jets will give 2022 another go with the same QB room, hoping Flacco's experience can rub off on the youngster Zach Wilson. Philadephia Eagles 2021 Quarterback: Jalen Hurts, Gardner Minshew 2022 Quarterback: Jalen Hurts, Gardner Minshew A talented young quarterback and a polarizing, capable backup. The Eagles will bring the same pair of QBs into 2022. Pittsburgh Steelers 2021 Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph 2022 Quarterback: Mitchell Trubisky, Dwyane Hasinkins, Mason Rudolph For the first time in almost two decades, Ben Roethlisberger will not be the Steelers quarterback. Instead, it will be former Bear Mitchell Trubisky given the reigns, with Dwayne Haskins and Mason Rudolph playing backup for Pittsburgh. San Francisco 49ers 2021 Quarterback: Jimmy Garoppolo, Trey Lance 2022 Quarterback: Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo Despite a trip to the NFC Championship Game for the second time in three years, the 49ers want to give their starting QB job to Trey Lance and will look to move the capable Jimmy Garoppolo. Seattle Seahawks 2021 Quarterback: Russell Wilson, Geno Smith 2022 Quarterback: Drew Lock, Geno Smith The Seahawks have by far the most significant downgrade at QB. Going from future Hall of Famers Russell Wilson, the Seahawks will be settling for former Bronco Drew Lock at QB in 2022. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2021 Quarterback: Tom Brady 2022 Quarterback: Tom Brady Despite a retirement announcement from Tom Brady that made the Buccaneers' future plans go in shambles, Brady unretired — making him the Buccaneers QB in 2022. Tennessee Titans 2021 Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill 2022 Quarterback: Ryan Tannehill If it isn't broke, don't fix it. Ryan Tannehill is far from the best QB in the league, but the Titans won a lot of games in 2021 with him under center and will be looking to do the same in 2022. Washington Commanders 2021 Quarterback: Taylor Heineke, Ryan Fitzpatrick 2022 Quarterback: Carson Wentz, Taylor Heineke The new-named Commanders will have a new look at QB, with Carson Wentz being acquired via trade from Indianapolis. WHO'S LEFT Free Agents: Cam Newton, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mike Glennon, Blaine Gabbert Available Via Trade: Baker Mayfield, Jimmy Garoppolo There may be some move around, but the QB Carousel has been in full swing already this offseason.
