CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today named Single-A Myrtle Beach infielder Tyler Durna and left-handed pitcher Jack Patterson the organization’s minor league player and pitcher of the month for June, respectively.

Durna, 22, batted .372 (32-for-86) with three doubles, a triple, three homers, 14 RBI, a .465 on-base percentage, a .535 slugging mark and a 1.000 OPS in 25 June games for Single-A South Bend prior to his promotion to Myrtle Beach on July 2. Durna had 10 multi-hit efforts, including three three-hit games, and reached base safely in 21 of 25 games last month. He led all Midwest League qualifiers last month in average, hits, on-base percentage and OPS while his 46 total bases were third.

Between South Bend and Myrtle Beach this season, Durna is hitting .304 (83-for-273) with 21 doubles, one triple, four homers and 44 RBI in 79 games. A left-handed hitter, his 32 walks have contributed to a .386 on-base percentage and he has batted .341 (15-for-44) with a .500 on-base percentage against left-handed pitching.

Selected by Chicago in the 15th round of the 2018 Draft out of the University of California, San Diego, Durna owns a .296 career average (108-for-365) with a .373 on-base percentage in 106 career games. He hit .272 (25-for-92) between Rookie League Mesa and Single-A Eugene last season, helping the Emeralds to the Northwest League title.

Patterson, 23, went 3-0 with a 0.95 ERA (2 ER/19.0 IP) in seven games (one start) for South Bend in June before he was promoted to Myrtle Beach to start July. He held opponents to a .164 average (11-for-67), a .194 slugging percentage and a .263 on-base percentage while he issued nine walks compared to 22 strikeouts. His 0.95 ERA was seventh among all Midwest League pitchers with at least 19.0 innings.

Patterson, who on Friday tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in his first outing with Myrtle Beach, has gone 5-1 with a 2.14 ERA (11 ER/46.1 IP) in 17 games (two starts) this season. He has held opponents to a .185 average (30-for-162) and a .507 OPS, including a .222 slugging percentage. He has allowed 21 walks and has struck out 51 in 46.1 innings, good for an average of 9.9 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Patterson has allowed one or fewer runs in 16 of his 17 outings, and taking away his six earned runs in 1.1 innings May 15 at Bowling Green, he has pitched to a 1.00 ERA (5 ER/45.0 IP) in his 16 other games.

Selected by the Cubs in the 32nd round of the 2018 Draft out of Bryant College in Smithfield, R.I., Patterson is 7-2 with one save and a 2.43 ERA (22 ER/81.1 IP) in 28 career games (eight starts). He has walked 31, struck out 84 and allowed just three home runs in 81.1 innings, while also having posted a 1.18 WHIP.
