Cubs News: Ben Zobrist set to join another minor-league team |
Chicago Cubs utility man Ben Zobrist's journey through the minor leagues will make its next stop in Memphis, Tenn., as he is scheduled to join the Triple-A Iowa Cubs for their game on Thursday at AutoZone Park. Iowa's matchup against the Memphis Redbirds will mark Zobrist's first Triple-A action after he took part in two separate Single-A stints with the South Bend Cubs and the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, respectively.
According to Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic Chicago, Zobrist is scheduled to participate in the entirety of Iowa's 4-game series with the Redbirds, which will run Thursday through Sunday, before being reevaluated on Monday. Zobrist has until August 31 to exit the restricted list and rejoin the Cubs if he is to become postseason eligible, so, if the Cubs' front office deems it necessary, he might suit up for Iowa for a couple of weeks before returning to the big leagues. Ben Zobrist will join the Iowa Cubs on Thursday in Memphis. He'll be there Thursday to Sunday and then, as has been the case since he started up again, they'll reevaluate on Monday. For those wondering if this means he's closer to returning than expected, it doesn't. Timeline remains the same as originally planned. https://t.co/urUbGuiqwD
