Coghlan signs minor league deal with AL team

Former Chicago Cubs outfielder Chris Coghlan has signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday and has been assigned to the Buffalo Bisons.

Coghlan was released by the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday in the final round of roster cuts before opening day.

In 2016, he batted .188 with six homers, 30 RBI, and .290 on-base percentage. The second half of the season with the Cubs, he batted .252 which was a big improvement over his first half (.146).

For his career, he has batted .260 with 52 home runs, 229 RBI, and .335 on-base percentage.

He was drafted in the first round by the Florida Marlins in the 2006 MLB draft.
