Roster Moves: Cubs place Colten Brewer on IL, promote pitching prospect |
The Chicago Cubs announced that they are calling up right-handed pitching prospect Porter Hodge from Triple-A Iowa and placing reliever Colton Brewer (lower back strain) on the injured list on Friday.
Brewer is the 16th Cubs player on the injured list in 2024. He had a 3.09 ERA in 11.2 innings over seven appearances this season with the Cubs. Hodge is a 23-year-old prospect with a 1-1 record with a 6.55 ERA (8 ER/11.0 IP) in 10 relief appearances with Triple-A Iowa this season. He was drafted by the Cubs in the 13th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of high school. He is currently the Cubs No. 24 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He will be the first player from the Cubs 2019 draft to play in the majors. When he makes an appearance, this will mark his MLB debut. The Cubs play Pittsburgh today at 1:20 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field. BIG league stuff. Mid-high 90s fastball (95-97, tops at 99) and legitimate out pitch with slider.
Threw 19 pitches last night with the @IowaCubs.
