MIAMI – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian from Triple-A Iowa and placed Brandon Hughes on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to April 27) with left knee inflammation.
Kilian, 25, will make today’s 3:05 p.m. CT start against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park. In all or part of four minor league seasons with the Giants (2019-21) and Cubs (2021-23) organizations, Kilian is 13-8 with a 3.30 ERA (86 ER/234.1 IP) in 55 career games (54 starts). The Anaheim, Calif., native was selected by San Francisco in the eighth round of the 2019 draft out of Texas Tech University.
Hughes, 27, is 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA (2 ER/5.2 IP) in five games out of the bullpen for the Cubs in 2023. He began the season on the injured list with left knee inflammation before being activated April 15.
