Cubs place Brandon Kintzler on 10-day IL, activate Pedro Strop |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Brandon Kintzler on the 10-day injured list with right pectoral inflammation and activated right-handed pitcher Pedro Strop off of the 10-day injured list. Strop will be available for the Cubs tonight when they continue their three-game series against the Oakland Athletics at Wrigley Field.
Strop, 33, was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 30 (retroactive to July 27) with left neck tightness and did not require a rehab assignment as part of his return. With the Cubs this season, Strop has gone 2-4 with nine saves and a 5.20 ERA (16 ER/27.2 IP) in 32 relief outings. He has struck out 29 batters in 27.2 innings while posting a 1.16 WHIP. Kintzler, 35, has gone 2-1 with a 2.33 ERA (12 ER/46.1 IP) in 49 relief outings with the Cubs this season. Joe Maddon on Brandon Kintzler (right pectoral inflammation): "I don’t think there’s anything spectacularly wrong with him, but it’s there. Calm it down. The guy’s been a rock for us. We want him to continue to be a rock for us...so why push it right now?"
