Cubs sign catcher prospect with $3 million signing bonus |
The Chicago Cubs have signed international prospects catcher Ronnier Quintero (Venezuela), shortstop Kevin Made, and catcher Brayan Altuve on Monday.
Quintero was signed for the largest ever international signing bonus for the Cubs at $3 million and more than the team shelled out for Elo Jimenez (2.8 million). Quintero is the No. 6 prospect in MLB Pipeline's Top 30 international prospect list and regarded as a top prospect with tremendous power batting left-handed. Made was No. 11 on the list and signed for $1.7 million. Altuve was ranked No. 30 overall. These players should all be in the Cubs farm system by 2020. The Cubs had a limit of $5,398,300 to spend on the international pool money. Meet your new #Cubs.
