CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Tyson Miller from the club’s South Bend Alternate Site. Outfielder Steven Souza Jr. has been designated for assignment.

Miller, who will wear uniform number 72, will be available for the Cubs tonight when they play the second game of their doubleheader against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field.

Miller, 25, made his major league debut in a start on August 17 vs. St. Louis, allowing two runs on one hit and three walks in two innings while recording a no-decision in Chicago’s 5-4 win. He combined to go 7-8 with a 4.35 ERA (66 ER/136.2 IP) in 26 starts last season between Double-A Tennessee and Triple-A Iowa.

The 6-foot-4 Miller was originally selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the 2016 Draft out of California Baptist University. He has combined to 24-25 with a 4.05 ERA (186 ER/413.0 IP) in 85 career appearances, 74 as a starter, covering the last four seasons in the Cubs organization. Miller is a native of Fairfield, California.

Souza Jr., 31, batted .148 (4-for-27) with one homer and five RBI in 11 games with the Cubs this season.

Chicago’s 60-man Player Pool roster stands at 58 players, with 28 active players on the major league roster (plus three 10-day injured list players) in Chicago plus infielder Ildemaro Vargas and 26 players in South Bend. The club’s 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.
