Tommy La Stella to start vs. Pirates on Wednesday |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled infielder Tommy La Stella from Triple-A Iowa. Right-handed pitcher Spencer Patton has been optioned to Triple-A.
La Stella is in the starting lineup tonight for the Cubs as they conclude their three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at Wrigley Field. The 27-year-old La Stella is batting .295 (31-for-105) with nine doubles, one triple, two home runs and eight RBI in 51 games for the Cubs this season. He has a .388 on-base percentage and a .457 slugging percentage, good for an .845 OPS. La Stella was optioned to the minors on July 28 and combined to bat .296 (8-for-27) with two doubles, two walks and four runs scored between Double-A Tennessee (two games) and Iowa (six games). La Stella was acquired from Atlanta on November 16, 2014 and has batted .285 (49-for-172) with 15 doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI in 84 games covering the last two years with Chicago. Patton, 28, is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA (9 ER/17.1 IP) in 12 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. He is 1-0 with 11 saves and a 0.77 ERA (3 ER/35.0 IP) in 34 relief outings with Iowa this year.
